WineTails not Wine Tales

January 3, 2007

Wine in cocktails. Need we say more?

We are compiling the best of the best -- share your winetail drink recipe here and see if it makes it into our mini Fine Guide that will soon be playing in a browser near you.

As always, be specific with the ingredients and process for creating your concoction and don't forget to give it a jazzy name!

Share in the comments area below.

PS -- one of our smarter editors actually thought we were looking for Wine Tales -- as in "this one time, I drank a bottle of Pinot and sat in with the band at this nightclub and these friendly bouncers showed me a new way to fly..." Alas, if this is the kind of WineTail you'd like to share, you're more than welcome.

Happy Trails. Er, Tails.

My recipe is :
Mix in a champagne flute:
1/2 glass COLD champagne, ex dry or spumante
add COLD Pama to fill to 3/4 full.
DELICIOUS

The best on a hot, summer day in Texas is equal parts of white wine (I prefer a chardonnay) and Fresca over crushed ice with a wedge of lime. Fresca Peach is even better. Great way to cut calories, too!
For a simple sangria, mix red wine (like a Shiraz) with Fresca and slices of citrus fruit. Serve over ice!

Caipigria
This delicious concoction is a combination of two classic drinks-the Caipirinha (Brazil's famous cocktail) and Sangria. The addition of red wine rounds off the sweet, tart taste of the typical Caipirinha

2 oz. CUCA FRESCA Cachaca
2 oz. red wine of your choice
1 lime-cut into 8 pieces
1.5 Tbsp superfine sugar

Place lime pieces in a 10 oz. rocks glass and add sugar. Muddle lime and sugar together. Fill the glass with crushed ice. Add cachaca and wine. Shake and garnish with a lime slice. Saude (Cheers)!

I will not tell you the name of this drink, but the mix is:
a glass of Duplin Winery "Magnolia" chilled
mixed with 1/2 shot or to taste of fine brandy
and 1/2 shot or to taste of a fine lemon liquore from the freezer. Talk about some "down south fine living!"
Of course nothing beats Duplin's Wines served alone!

Mine is called a Sangria

mix in tall glass
1/2 Jigger of Vodka
1 jigger of syrup
1/2 lime juice
fill glass with crushed ice
fill half of glass with club soda
fill other half or 1/4 of glass with burgundy

pour the burgundy in slowly so when you are done pouring the wine it will be a two tone drink.

very refreshing
serve with a swizzle stick

I can't imagine ANY kind of fizzy liquid added to an already lucious wine!! BUT - maybe on a hot, hot day, some fizzy with a chardonnay and a twist of lime! Yum!

I like to mix equal parts merlot and diet sprite, then I add a splash of vodka and a squeeze of fresh lime juice. Yummy!

I Live in Texas and with 100 degree weather in the summer, I came up with this delicious concoction. The "Juicy Judy"... Take 2 packages of your favorite kool-aid mix add to a one gallon jug of water, add 28 pkgs of equal or "blue sugar" and shake, shake, shake. Pour in to a tall plastic cup filled 1/3 way and freeze overnight. Next day nuke it for about 12 seconds. Then take one of those hand held "boat motors" and give it a wizz until it is slushy. Then take your favorite wine and wizz it some more. Put in a long straw and sip it all up!!! Keep extra kool-aid freezer cups as a back up for more Juicy Judy's. P.S. Strawberry kiwiw is delicious. Also use one pkt Grape with one of cherry. Experiment yourself!!

My favorite winetail is Calimocho which I used to drink in Spain. I also love cocktails with champagne in it like a Flirtini but are we really talking about champagne here? Let's go with Calimocho:) Salud!

Ingredients:
1/2 glass Red wine
1/2 glass Coca-Cola
Ice Cubes
Mixing instructions:
Fill the highball glass with ice, then half fill it with red wine, and half fill it with coca-cola. Enjoy.
