Daily Affirmation

February 27, 2007

Every once in a while we come across a phrase or insight that sticks with us and perhaps even guides us. I remember knowing a successful businessman who always said "Look Sharp, Feel Sharp" and to this day I kinda say that in the back of my mind when having to dress up for some occassion. He also was a pilot and used to say nonsense like "Left Rudder full steam ahead" so he did know how to balance things out with humor.

Lately I've been re-reading the Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff, which is a great book that makes the argument that Winnie the Pooh is a Westerner who embodies Eastern Philosophy, particularly the teachings of Lao Tzu.

As we pontificate, or ramble on about what Fine Living means to us, we think about balance and relaxation, about enjoying life's simple pleasures, about surrounding one's self with nice things, about family and ancestry and where we've come from, where we are going. We think about philanthropy, about giving, about making the world and our communities a better place. Each of us defines Fine Living differently and this makes it endlessly fun (and challenging) to create experiences on the site that touch as many of us as possible.

What we'd love to do here is see if there are words of wisdom, insights, quotes, bits of brilliance that you've heard, created, lived by or just enjoyed hearing and would now like to share.

Remember: You Only Live Once... So Live without Regret.

Pollyanna played the GLAD GAME...so now I do: All day long, find something good in everything that happens. Funny thing is, there always is something! I used to be negative and I couldn't stop but after a lot of "inside work" I have finally began achieving success. And you know what? Everything's easier.

A few of my favorite quotes that I like as well as try to live by daily are:
1. NOTHING CHANGES IF NOTHING CHANGES
2. TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED
3. WHAT COMES AROUND;GOES AROUND
4. WHATEVER YOU GIVE OUT TO THE WORLD IS WHAT YOU'LL GET BACK; MY WISH FOR YOU: THAT YOU HAVE BEEN GOOD TO THE WORLD!
5. WE ARE WHAT WE THINK! THINK POSITIVE!
Ok, well thanks for letting me share these, and I enjoyed reading what others feel as well.

My favorite saying when I'm having way too much fun is "It's never too late to have a happy childhood."

I am a restaurant owner, and after what had occured on 9 - 11, we had come up with the following saying on the introduction to our wine list - "celebrate life, open a bottle of wine".
We now just use the expression: "celebrate life".
On out t shirts, business cards, etc. Life is too precious to get bogged down with the trivial b.s. that we deal with.

My husband and I love Room service, we record it when we can't watch it, but a major problem lately is the music. . . it's irritating and is so loud it is annoying while we are trying to listen to the program. . . . adding the muic was not a plus, please either lower the volume or better yet get rid of it.

WE love your show but hate your music. . .

I love saying to people, especially to children, including my husband "You're never completely dressed until you put on a SMILE." (--Buckskin Bill Show)

My girlfriends and I sing that song, I forget by who, but the lyrics go on about "Nobody gonna breaka my stride, nobody gonna get me down... oh no..."

and we really can't sing that well, so it's just a pump you up song... a rally cry...

I find myself singing it under my breath most every day.

There was a guy who said this and it always makes me laugh. He said it to a girl who then became his wife: "If Life were a Taco Bell, you'd be a Burrito Supreme."

I don't know if that's what you're looking for but I found it hilarious and what is life if it's not about finding humor anywhere you can!
