Vacationing at Home
April 21, 2007
If you think about it, what is a vacation? It's a period of time and an area of space that is disconnected from the rest of your life. It's a disruption -- a good one --
It's a parallel universe. It's an attitude. It's a set of experiences that are out of the norm.
Some people go on vacation everyday -- playing a quick game of solitaire at their computer or reading a trashy novel at lunch or between classes.
We believe that life is a vacation -- or should be. And that everyday should be spent with that mental perspective. But of course we can't go ON vacation everyday. (Our suitcases aren't big enough!) -- What we can do is bring the vacation to us. Turn off the phones, shut off the mail (or refuse to empty the mailbox), have a meal brought in, rent a limo to go out on the (your) town for a night, see a play, a movie, visit a museum or a gallery that you've never paid attention to.
See your local area through the eyes of a tourist.
We'd love to hear from you about what you've done to create this "Vacation at Home" attitude in your life.
