New York City Hotspots

August 29, 2006

We all know there are endless lists of the latest and greatest in the Big Apple and the surrounding environs.

But we also all know that this list is never complete.

Share with our Fine Living community what you know to be the not-to-be-missed experiences. Who knows, we may send our cameras trailing after you as you play tour guide.

Add your thoughts and suggestions in the comments areas below. Thanks!

As a student in my senior year at Fordham University, I can expect the reaction most people have when I recommend taking a tour of the Bronx. But there are many beautiful places that I think get overlooked. Fordham's campus is a great start, with its beautiful lawns, gothic architecture, and rich history. Across the street, the Bronx Zoo is an exciting escape from the city, and the Gorilla exhibit is definitely a crowd pleaser. The spectacular New York Botanical Gardens are also located across the street from the University, with amazing exhibits throughout the year and beautiful event spaces. Fordham Road is a very popular shopping district in the Bronx, and you can feel the heartbeat of the city when walking up this street. Driving a few miles down the Pelham Parkway leads you to Orchard Beach, a small 3 mile stretch of sand to enjoy in the summer. Next to Orchard Beach is City Island, a total surprise and hidden beauty, right over a short bridge. It is dotted with seafood restaurants and shops, and the beautiful docks and small cafes evoke the feeling of a town in the Cape.
